Dhenupureeswarar Temple or Sri Thenupureeswarar temple is located at South East of Kumbakonam at a calm village known as Pateeswaram. The temple is believed to be constructed during 16th Century by Govinda Dikshithar, a Minister of Nayak King Acchathappa.
The prime deity is Sri Dhenupureeswarar and the idol in this temple is marvelously adorned with religious jewels. The temple structure is a real specimen of centuries old temple architectural beauty. There are many statues, paintings, structures and idols depicting various religious stories and events. The temple is routinely visited by the pilgrims from all over South India.

Theerthangeswarar Temple, Theerthamalai

Theerthamalai is a popular pigrim centre and it is 16 k.m. from Harur in Dharmapuri district. This pilgrim and picnic centre becoming very popular with the public. The temple situated about one k.m up the steep slope of a hillock derives that its name from the five springs in the temple. Lord Theerthagireeswar (Lord Shiva) is the worshipping deity. According to the legend it was here that Lord Rama worshipped Lord Shiva to absolve himself of the sin of having killed several demons in the war against Ravana. Hence there is belief that a holy dip in the waters of this spring will wipe out the sins committed by the people.
According to the legend, in order to worship to Lord Shiva, Rama sent Hanuman to fetch water from the River Ganga, but when Hanuman did not return at the appointed time for pooja, Rama unleashed an arrow onto the rocky slope of the hillock and water sprang forth, which today is called Rama Theertham. The tiny waterfall drops from a height of about 30 feet is perennial and during the summer as well as the rainy season the water falls on the bathing ghat behind the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. The other Theertham, all of which have their origin in different parts of the rocky surface, are the Agasthya Theertham, AgniTheertham. Kumara Theertham and the Gouri Theertham, besides these four Theerthams the Hanuman Theertham is situated about 16km from the main temple on the banks of river South Pennar. This too is also closely associated with the temple. It is stated that when Hanuman returned with the water from the Ganga, he found that Rama had brought the Ganga water with his arrow. He then threw away in anger the vessel containing the Ganga water. This water fell onto the riverbank. Hanuman Theertham also is a very holy place. During summer even when the river is dry there will be sweet water in the spring that flows from rock in the riverbed. The waters of the Theerthamalai are supposed to have medicinal values too. It may be mentioned that Theerthamalai has huge reserves of magnetite iron ore that can be utilized for the Salem Steel Plant.
Several Inscriptions can be found in the Theerthagireeswarar Temple. They relate to the Vijayanagar and Chola rulers. There is one inscription in ancient Telugu and Kannada. Poet Saint Arunagirinathar referred to the Temple of Theerthagirieeswarar in his compositions. The Mandapam near the sanctum sanctorum is supposed to be built by Sila Naicken. He is said to have maintained a well-fortified garrison at the top of the hill from where a commanding view of the surroundings can be on all sides is available.
There is another spring known as Vashista Theertham higher up in the hill. Close by are the wonderful granite pieces of Saptha kanyakas. The beauty of these sculptures is that they can be viewed only through a very narrow crevice in the rock. The nine-day annual festival at the Temple is in the month of March. The main festival is held at the Shiva temple at the foot of Theerthamalai.

Chennimalai Subramanya Swamy Temple

History of Chennimalai Andavar
chennimalai-muruganHundreds of years ago there lived a Land lord on the bank of River Noyyal about 3km away from west of Chennimalai. He had many cows in his farm. One day the Land Lord came to know from his servant that one of his cows has no milk in its udder. But the Land Lord noticed that the same cow discharged its milk in a particular spot every evening. On the very next day he consulted this matter with his village people. They decided to dig the spot where the cow flows its milk everyday. During his digging they found a beautiful Statue of Lord Muruga. On seeing the beautiful image of God they ecstasies. They found that the face of the Statue was cared highly charming than the body. To smoothen the body of the image they summoned a sculptor. When the sculptor began his work with his chisel the image of god was bleeded. On seeing that the people of the village shocked and they thought that God was unwilling to change his image. So they consecrated the image of Lord Muruga on the Chennimalai hill. Even today we can see the image in the same manner. One among the Siddhas named Pinnakku Siddha made penance and worshipped Lord Muruga in this place. We can see the cave where Pinnakku Siddha had performed his penance and got Dharshan of Lord Muruga. The strange thing of this place is that curd is not become sour.

How to Reach the Temple

By Bus:   Bus or Train facilities are available from Chennai to Erode. From Erode travel can be made for another 30 km by bus to the temple on the route of Erode to Dharapuram via Perundurai. Temple is operating two buses for the temple from the town.
By Train :  Chennimalai is at a distance of 8 km from Ingur Railway Station.

By Air : After reaching Coimbatore by air one can take diversion of 13 km in the south from Perundurai town which is one of route of Coimbatore to Erode.

Thandumariamman temple is located at 2 kms from Coimbatore Railway Station. The temple was built during the period of Tippu Sultan. This temple has got a very unique origin. The story behind it goes on like.

Thandumariamman appeared in the dream of a soldier of Tippu Sultan said that she has been living in the forest for a very long time, the following morning that soldier went to the forest in search of the goddess and found her beside a neem tree.

Over-joyed by the goddess appearing before him, he showed her to his countrymen and finally the temple was built in that place. Soon the news spread all over and was worshipped by the name Thandumariamman.

Bramothsavam is celebrated annually for 13 days, from the first Tuesday of Chithrai month. Temple is open from 6 am to 8 pm.

Prayers with ghee lamps on lemon, lit on ragukala of Tuesdays are familiar among ladies. Majority of the buses pass through this temple. Nearest bus stop is uppilipalayam.

Ardhanareeswarar Temple, Tiruchengode

This Shivasthalam was known as Kodimaada Chenkundrur during the time of Sambandar's visit to this temple. Now known as Tiruchengode, it is famous for its hill and the temple on the top. The hill is 1900 feet height from the mean sea level. A motorable ghat road is also available to go to the top of the hill and one can reach the temple by bus or car. Another way to reach the temple is to alight 1200 steps to the top of the hill. There are many mandapams on the way for people to take rest. Once on top of the hill, the main Gopuram (Tower) with 5 tiers is on the north side of the hill. The compound wall of the temple is 260 feet length east to west and 170 feet length north to south.
The main shrine for Lord Shiva known as Maathoru Paagar and for Lord Subramanya known as Chengottu Velar is located on a flat surface atop the hill. The image of the main deity is 6 feet in height, the right half of the image as male and left half of the image as female. Hence the main deity is also known as Arthanareeswarar. Chengottu Velar shrine is on the back side of the main sanctum sanctorum. The sculptures found in the mandapam in front of the Chengottu Velar shrine are of intricate designs and workmanship. Saint Arunagirinathar has also composed Thirupugazh on Lord Subramanya here.
